The funny thing about our house is that the bedrooms are all different sizes. The master bedroom/bathroom is huge...the middle bedroom is kind of on the small size...and the front bedroom is pretty big with a 12+ foot closet. For the last 3 years, the front bedroom has been our guest room and the closet is jam-packed full of old ski jackets, scrapbooking supplies, wedding momentos (including my un-cleaned dress), card making junk, boxes of my high school memories, etc.
The plan all along for that room was to move Ryan to the big room and put the baby in the middle room. And if we had two boys - even better! We'd eventually move them both to the front bedroom and convert the middle bedroom into the guest room (or maybe even move the office upstairs). Now that we know that we're having a girl, that sort of threw a monkey wrench into my decision-making process. Did I want to have a daughter with a front bedroom? Did I want the nursery that far from the master bedroom? That front room gets warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter than the other bedrooms...what do we do about that?
Oh - and what about furniture? We bought Ryan's set with the intention that it would stay with him until he went away to school (or longer if he wanted). We made sure that we bought quality stuff that would last (dove tail joints/etc). His crib converts to a full size bed...it's all matchy-matchy. Just the way I wanted it. But we bought that furniture when we had money. And how were we going to buy "quality" furniture for the new baby? Do we split up his set? Keep the crib and the low dresser together? Get him a new bed and give him his tall bureau? Or just bite the bullet and get the new baby her own new stuff?
The things that a pregnant woman thinks (stresses?) about!
Well - I should have just asked Ryan about it. He solved our problem for us.
Ryan: "Grandma's room?"
Ryan: "NO"
Mommy: "Do you want to give your bed to baby boom-boom and get a BRAND new big boy bed?"
Ryan: "No --- I don't want a new bed"
Mommy: "Oh....well what if we kept your bed in this room and made into a big bed like mommy and daddy's?"
Ryan: "Can Santa bring baby boom-boom a new crib?"
Mommy: "You'd like Santa to bring Baby Boom-Boom a new crib? So that you can keep yours?" Ryan: "Yeah".
Mommy (hugging her sweet boy): "you got it littlest Martin"
Sooo - as you can see. Ryan likes the smaller room....and he likes his bed. Makes me feel better knowing that I'm doing at least "something" right.
Now off to look for girl bedding - with the relief that we only have to paint one room instead of two!
A place to capture all the milestones, craziness,
and adventures of the Martin Family!
Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.
